About Us /News

Ballynacoy Welsh Cobs was established in 1995 when the Father (Harry) and Son (James) team purchased the foundation mare Lady, a two year old chestnut with four perfect white socks she was a picture.

In the next few years we had many rememberable days breaking Lady to ride and drive. This was a new adventure for us having never broken a horse before but lady made it easy with her relaxed nature and super temperament.

In 1996 we purchase our other foundation mare Bo Peep she was a dun yearling what a character, always getting up to something. We also decided to put Lady in foal, a neighboring Stud had a Stallion on loan from Wales, Ffoslas Welsh Dragon. He was a perfect match for lady for he too was a Chestnut with four whites. She was cover in June and we waited impatiently to the follow year for the foal.

On the 17th of May the wait was over. Keltic Warrior was born he was a super foal and he knew it, always showing off.

At this time we didn't own much land and with the three cobs we where at full capacity.

In 1998 we upgraded to a 30 acre farm.

Since then the numbers have grown to 3 Stallions, 5 mares and an ever growing number of young stock.

Ballynacoy Welsh cobs have become one of the most successful and recognisable Welsh Cob studs in Ireland, having bred and produced the multi champion Keltic Warrior and Jumping Jack Flash.
